My top 30 favourite movies of all time
A good movie is one that you still think about years later
Hello everyone. Today I want to share with you about movies. I created a list of my favourite top 30 movies. There are some subjective choices that were made, but they’re all my personal favourites. The films on the list are the first that come to mind. We watch movies because we all want our escapes. A good film is one that you still think about years later.
I have watched quite a few of them multiple times over the years. The list is not easy to create. I didn’t include some of the films because it was difficult to choose. That was tough. I hope this post can at least give you some good enough suggestions. The listing order is subject to change.

I might have missed a few movies, and I change my mind quite often. So, I’m still figuring out which one of them I really liked. Please let me know if you have a list to share.

Children of Men (2006)
This is my favourite film of all time. It was so underrated. The movie consists of a lot of long takes, and great shots. I like the story telling and the cinematic. You can see a lot of references were planted very subtly. This is filmmaking at its best. In case you don’t know, this film inspired the video game The Last of Us. -
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
I love every aspect of this sequel. From story, characters, costumes/set design, cinematography, soundtrack, and more. The aesthetic of this film achieved was way beyond my taste and imagination. A beautifully crafted film. -
Spirited Away (2001)
This was Japanese Anime film at its apex. I understand that I shan’t compare it with Pixar animations, but you know, the artistic level of the hand-drawn 2D style was beyond comparison. The story, characters, art style, and music were beautifully done. And most importantly, the message the film tries to convey. -
Se7en (1995)
This was a great crime movie. It was so good to a point that I kept rewatching it. Brad Pitt who plays a young and angry detective in the film. What I can tell you is that, I think I would probably do the same if it ever happened to me. My impression of Brad Pitt comes from this film. -
Léon: The Professional (1994)
Loved the film. One of the many movies I grew up watching. Jean Reno and Natalie Portman did an amazing job. I will never forget Gary Oldman who plays the villain. -
Inception (2010)
Christopher Nolan likes to play with the concept of time. I’ve probably watched it more than five times. The movie was so good that people are still debating how we are going to interpret the ending. Simply put, choose what you want to believe. This was a carefully crafted film. If I had to choose, I would rather prefer this one over Tenet (2020). -
District 9 (2009)
A very good Sci-fi film. In fact, it was one of the best out there. It has a great story going on, and it kept me hooked until the very end. I had almost forgotten about this gem. I’m still waiting for the sequel to come out. -
Babel (2006)
My sister talked about the film and suggested to us. The story was great. I think this film was a bit underrated. -
Cast Away (2000)
A very good film by Tom Hanks. If I had to comment, it’s the DHL at the end that seems off to me. They put ads into film back then in the 90’s already? -
Fight Club (1999)
This was a film I watched a long time ago but almost forgotten about it. Years later, someone asked me to watch it again. And it becomes one of my favourite. This is a film that needed to be rewatched again for every few years. -
The Dark Knight (2008)
I remember I watched it first in a iMax cinema. I was impressed by the visuals and music. Later, I bought the blu-ray and rewatched it million times. This is by far the best superhero films that ever made. It’s Batman. -
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
This was a meaningful movie. When I was feeling unhappy, I loved to see it again. A very decent film to watch. And I love the soundtrack very much. -
Lost in Translation (2003)
A good film. I still remember what the story was after all these years. It was before Scarlett Johansson was famous. -
Amélie (2001)
A French film recommended by a friend ages ago. At the time, I wasn’t paying attention because of the language barrier. It has great cinematic, story, and music. It gives me hope and warmth while watching it. A very beautiful film. -
Speed (1994)
A big action flick back then. I still remember some of its iconic moments. The story had me excited even I have already seen it more than once. -
21 Grams (2003)
One of my classmates introduced the film to me when I was still a student. And he told me it was good. He wasn’t lying. I got to know the weight of our souls. I had no idea it was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. -
Face/Off (1997)
When I was a teenager, I loved action movies. This was no doubt one of the classics. Great cast with Nic Cage and John Travolta, directed by John Woo. This was one of those films that brought the Hong Kong cinema to the West. A must-watch. -
Before Sunrise (1995)
Again, this was one of the movies that someone recommended to me. I have seen it multiple times over the years. The first movie in the trilogy is the best one. Because it feels authentic. -
Dune (2021)
After rewatching it multiple times, I have to say, this deserved to be on the list. This is another beautiful film created by Denis Villeneuve. The director surely has good taste in filmmaking. -
Unbreakable (2000)
This film was a very special one. I have seen the trilogy, but I think Unbreakable was the best one amongst the three. -
The Machinist (2004)
I saw it on a TV channel when I was young. This was a very unusual experience. And it got me intrigued till the end. I was also impressed by the transformation of Christian Bale. -
Super 8 (2011)
If you like Stranger Things, you will love this movie. Despite it’s targeting the younger audience, but it was good. -
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
I love Jennifer Lawrence in the movie. This was a very fun and romantic comedy. It put smile on my face. I’ve enjoyed my time watching it. -
Shutter Island (2010)
A thriller that I think it was very well-done. The concept of the story somewhat a bit similar to Inception (2010). -
The Fifth Element (1997)
I watched it a few times when I was still a teenager. I was too young to understand the story. I saw it because Bruce Willis was in it. But that was classic. -
The Grandmaster (2013)
If you watch Asian films, you must have heard of Wong Kar-wai. This was a art-house film, unlike any kind of Kung-fu or action movies. It has great shots, beautiful shots, excellent choreography and fight scenes. I highly recommend if you like martial arts. -
Josee, the Tiger and the Fish ジョゼと虎と魚たち (2003)
Amongst many Asian romance films that I watched, I think this one remains at my favourite. It has touched my soul successfully. -
La La Land (2016)
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are both very attractive actors. It was a good musical movie. And what I liked most was the ending. It didn’t fall into cliche. -
Whiplash (2014)
You only need to see it once, and you will remember it for a very long time. This one was especially good when you rewatch it again. -
Snowpiercer (2013)
A Korean film directed by Bong Joon-ho. I think this one was a good movie. In my opinion, it was better than Parasite (2019). -
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
I loved the film’s great long takes. I had watched it multiple times. -
Gladiator (2000)
This was a very big budget movie. I wasn’t disappointed. Great score, nice costumes design, good story, and characters. -
Con Air (1997)
A big action movie I grew up watching. I liked badass movie stars like Nic Cage. He’s kind of my childhood idol. -
Panic Room (2002)
I remember I watched this movie at home with my siblings. It got me hooked in from start to finish. That also was I first saw Jodie Foster performance. It was a very long time ago. I rewatched it again on Netflix last year. -
I, Robot (2004)
A few classmates recommended it to me when I was at school. They kept telling me it was good. I guess they were not wrong. -
Triangle (2009)
An underrated horror movie that very few talk about. I liked it. I had already forgotten the film’s title and had to search for it. I would love to see it again.
When I was a teenager, I didn’t have much choice but to watch movies on TV. Now we have streaming services with hundreds of thousands of shows available. When you are provided with so many options, you usually don’t pay much attention to any of them. The best movie might be the one that you tried to look for, but wasn’t there.
I don’t think I know of many movies. But I did watch a bunch of them. Are there any movies that caught your eye?
