Re-watched Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) is a sequel to the first film. The story continues with Red, Abe and Liz while they’re working for the B.P.R.D.. Meanwhile, in the shadows, the elf Prince Nuada returns from exile and plans to reclaim their rights from humans. He summons dark creatures for assistance and wishes to collect the pieces of the Crown in order to summon the Golden Army and wage war against humans.

When we look at films created by Guillermo del Toro. You can clearly see that he’s influenced by Japanese Anime culture heavily and draws inspiration from the works of Studio Ghibli. In particular, the story kind of wants to remind the audience about the pollution that humans have done to nature. In my opinion, this film series is so much better than the titles from Marvel.

To be frank, I act a bit like Hellboy himself in real life. Bad temper, rude and sometimes hotheaded. He was also afraid of his girlfriend and that’s kind of funny. That makes me like the character even more.

I like the little gadgets that are used through out the film. The set design, makeup, and costumes all look super cool. If you watch the film, you’ll see the level of attention to detail and it’s going to blow your mind.

Ron Perlman becomes Hellboy himself. Just like Robert Downey Jr.’s Ironman. It may seem a bit unfair to the new Hellboy (2019) reboot, but it’s hard to surpass Ron’s portrayal. I hope I can give the David Harbour version at least a try.

Also, I might want to visit New York someday to see if there’s a secret Troll Market under the Brooklyn Bridge. See you in the next review.
